SUBJECT: INCIDENT INVOLVING ELECTION MATERIALS ON TRANSIT:Today 08/08/22 at 1830hrs police received distress call from members of public that they had intercepted marked ballot papers at shell petrol station. Police rushed to the the scene which is at shell petrol station map ref xp919875 about 2km east of the station and established that today 8/8/22 at 1800hrs MV reg kdg910b Toyota sienta driven by one Frederick mwaniki nganga carrying election materials under escort on no 211548 ap sgt michael cheptoo of sgb unit and no 233383 APC Daniel chepkwony of aps headquarters checked into shell petrol station kilgoris to refuel the MV where members of public got suspicious suspecting them of ferrying marked ballot papers and intercepted but police responded quickly and arrested them and escorted them to Kilgoris police station as members of public bay for their blood. The following election materials were recovered in their possession; 1)register of voters for Kilgoris prison, 2) results booklet s/no 61-62, 18-29 3) 12pcs of presidential ballot papers, 4) form 35c 2pcs, 5) form 36c 8pcs, 6) form 34b 20pcs, 7) form 39b 16pcs, 8) form 35b 24pcs, 9) form 36b 27pcs, 10) 38b 26pcs, 11) copy of work ticket for hired vehicles(2022). Apart from this one presidential ballot box was destroyed by members of public. Transmara west constituency returning officer was called in who confirmed that the intercepted materials were property of iebc which were yet to be delivered to them.
