Tough times continue facing Kenyans across the country as basic commodity prices continue to increase. Households will now be forced to pay 10 shillings more for a 2-kilogram packet of Soko maize flour at Naivas supermarket, down from 130 shillings a week ago. Prices of several other commodities such as sugar, wheat, tea, bread, and wheat flour have also been on an upward trend since 2022. Across the major supermarkets, sugar retails highest at 260 shillings per 2Kg, Wheat flour goes for 170 shillings per Kg, and the 400 grams of bread cost 60 shillings down from 55 shillings last month. The average price for Kenya Black Tea is 254.85 shillings per kilogram. The average cost for a ton is 267,995.45 Kenyan Shillings in Mombasa and Nairobi.

Millers have warned of a possible price jump on wheat flour attributable to global wheat prices, which have shot up from USD 345 (approximately 39,295 shillings) per ton to USD 460 (52,394 shillings) per ton over the last day.
