The Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) will temporarily ban matatus from Nairobi CBD while conducting its second Green Park Terminus test run.
NMS will conduct the test run on Friday, May 28, from 4 pm to 8 pm according to a notice dated Wednesday, May 26.

"Notice is hereby given to the General Public that all PSV vehicles operating from Nairobi Railway Station Frontage will do a test run of dropping and picking passengers at the Green park Terminal (former Lunar Park).
"Thereafter, normal PSV pick up and drop off operations will continue from the Nairobi Railway Station frontage until further notice," Director General Mohamed Badi announced.

The Kenya Airforce General added that NMS is in the process of implementing the various 'de-congestion strategies' of the Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Master Plan (NIUPLAN)

According to Badi, one of the strategies is the construction of matatu stages. The Green Park Terminal that is intended to be the new stage for PSV vehicles is nearing completion and the process is now entering the transition phase of commissioning the terminal where all stakeholders will be assessing their level of preparedness for commissioning this facility.

so jipange poa if you use the roads around Uhuru Park and if you board your Mat at Railways

I am no civil engineer, urban planner or transport system specialist but anytime traffic on a left hand drive system is required to make a sharp right turn to join traffic and merge right to an acceleration lane, expect a serious snarl up. Case in point; the former GSU overpass, Exit to TRM and Kasarani, Kangundo road kuingia Umoja and Mama Lucy etc. Good luck with the plan.

that's true.
and if you noticed, many right turns were removed along/around Kenyatta Avenue.

right turns into and out of the terminus is what will kill the dream and vision. am sure they looked into it, and most probably the solution will be to force the matatus to use the roundabouts to avoid the right turn.

my own personal solution would have been to increase/introduce a new lane, (as they did outside Agip house) on all streets from Moi avenue through downtown, allocate different streets to dropoffs and others to pick points. (private parking to be reserved to uptown of Moi avenue)
the matatus to park outside the CBD after drop off and wait for their turn to pick passengers.

unfortunately, any solution works if there will be discipline, and unfortunately, humans and especially the Black person, don't poses self-discipline.
so the plans will automatically fail.

imagine the BRT station at roysambu is on the accelerating lane and barely 50metres away there is a highway joining lane at the exact sameplace only leaving one lane for use by motorists

Just wondering if it could have been cheaper to model this using some AI simulation way before they decided to put money into the project, I dont get how one build such a project, add all the hype to it, without a clear idea of how it will work, or how the different parameters will interact.

am almost certain this was proposed by somebody, but due to the speed in which these projects must be completed (before the elections), the plans/ideas were never listened to.

The President is changing the face of Kenya, but i hope by the end of it all or some few years from now, we won't be avoiding the projects due to high cost of usage. (Tolls, Taxes......)

You do realize majority of the faces of the project are phoseals, right?

BTW which is easier, banning matatus in the CBD or banning private vehicles. I once visited a friend and came across a homestead with six vehicles, meaning everybody had a car, and wakiwa na shughuli all of them will each drive their car into town

banning 14 Seater matatus and Banning private vehicles.
they both have to go.

If one 14-seater means, potentially, 14 private motorists off the road, what is the logic?
after removing the personal cars, the next category to contribute to traffic will be the 14 seaters and so on.
so if both can be banned at the same time the better.
