Statement from KeNHA
KeNHA has adopted Hand Packed Stone (HPS) technology in the construction of Mombasa Road to create a durable sub-base and extend the pavement's lifespan. This labour-intensive method enhances the road’s structural integrity, ensuring taxpayers get value for money.
To address drainage challenges caused by high water percolation, the contractor has also introduced a rockfill base to stabilise the wet ground. The road’s surface will feature a layer of Dense Bitumen Macadam and Asphalt Concrete for added strength and durability.

A time tasted way of construction intitiated by the Roman empire 2400 years ago.
Hii ndio design wahindi wamekuwa wakitengeneza barabara hapa Kenya since 1960s. In a few months it will be full of potholes due to the heavy trailers. The Roman way of doing roads was nothing close to this.

I'm so inspired. Nitawekelea khupipi stick using missionary style with a grin on my face and declare that I've discovered that not known before to man.

Yaani tunarudi pre-romans times, just to keep the road tendering gravy train continuously rolling?

Kuna watu kazi yao ni kutengeneza barabara zitaharibika yearly ili waendelee kupata tender. The same thing with murram roads pale kijijini. Same companies building and repairing the roads every year after rains.

In Roman times they didn’t have multi ton trailers, i doubt if Roman roads can meet today’s standards.

I've seen those ancient Roman cobble streets still in use to this day. They're too narrow for trucks but considering they've been in existence for centuries, makes you think huh?

As this contractor hand packs this side of town, shovels and trowels is working on the other side CBD towards Westlands .
