Laikipia, update

For me it's a good thing, the Pokots banditry is now an issue of national discussion, there are people who have never been back to their ancestral home since 1999, it's time to deal with it, having people squatting in other people land and having 20Km of uninhabited land due to banditry should be given the seriousness it deserves, places with high agricultural potential, but can't be/hadn't been farmed for 22 years due to fear of the pokots.
This time around the solution to a recurring problem shall be solved once and for all.

They are not Pokot bandits, they are Kenya's bandits, born and bred, the product of more than 50 years of marginalisation. Condemn them for their errant ways but also wear their shoes for a moment and acknowledge their limited options, they probably wouldn't choose banditry if they had an education, if their main cash crop enjoyed government attention and resources as much as coffee, or tea, if they had access to social amenities, future generations of the Pokot need to have another option except banditry, that is the most permanent cure.

Are they more marginalised than the Marakwets of Kerio valley, more than the Tugens(Arrors), more than the Njemps, Samburus, Turkanas, please keep your marginalised bullshit to yourself, they have chosen a life of stealing and expansionist agenda. They are the same kind of criminals you have here in the city, we should also have a seatdown with the criminals so that we can know what drove them into crime, instead of arresting or shooting them when found committing crime.

You missed the point by a country mile.

All this you've written was done to the Somalis and guess what, they are the very same ones hiding elements of Al Shabab among them, and even resorting to chasing away "nywele ngumu."

The lessons are right in front of your eyes but you refuse to learn.

You just chose one of my suggestions. How about the others.

I think we have tried peace with these terrorism for too long. It is high time we called it what it is and acted accordingly. They have an incentive to cause violence because they don't pay the price. Let's make them pay the price.

Excellent!! Well put!!

I was reading somewhere the thing that has proved lethal to many communal practices in the RV has been education.
Many young people have left behind some disgusting practices and are instead embracing modernism.

Again, you fail to learn from the example of the Shifta War and the resulting massacres. The government meted all sorts of violence on the Somalis. What did that achieve when they're still supporting terrorists?

Yes, call it what it is, but come up with different actions. Violence has already proven to not be the answer.

God! Are you sanitizing terrorism bana? Please explain how they have been marginalized at an expense of other communities. These are people who won't take children to school.
That Tumaini academy was built deep inside those bushes purposely to attract them. They aren't even supposed to pay, but they are still seeking the slightest opportunity to burn it. Is that marginalization? You have no idea what these people are

With your kind of mentality taxpayers are going to spend tens of billions, probably hundreds of billions to do a job that would have cost much less money, cost much less lives, less trauma, banditry and crime in general are survival tactics pointing to gaps in economic inclusions, solve those you won't need to waste money on weapons.

Hehehe you are an idealist, tembea huko and your idealism will die a natural death.

Here something for you: almost a decade ago Bishop Cornelius Korir(MHRIP) came with donors from Ireland who wanted to build a peace school, primary, secondary and a college/polytechnic in the furthest part of Bartabwa between the Tugens and Pokots, at the meeting Pokot professionals and elders vehemently opposed it asking why couldn't the school be built in Kolowa(deep in Pokot land) or Barbarchun(Deep in Tugen land), since with construction of the institution, it will require the posting of Police officers to protect the teaching staff and students, which in turn leads to a trading centre halting their expansionist agenda into Tugens land, while they had already chased away Tugens to Chemoi, a distance of some 30Kilometres away from the original Tugens boundary back in 1963.
Mark you, professionals and community elders rejected the construction of a school, since they benefit from their thieving supposedly uneducated brethrens.

Maybe you got a textbook solution to the problem, but for now the situation is as it is.

Let's apply your proposal on the Gaza gang members in Nairobi a small area before applying it to an area 10 times bigger than Nairobi.
I have been there seen road construction company being shot at for making the place accessible, seen traders being shot at for buying fruits from the wrong clan. Seen school with no teachers and no students, hospital built by taxpayers money.
Relief food having to be escorted by RDU and GSU, seen people robbed off their cattle since they're not pokotis.

Mgalla muue na haki umpe, to solve a problem you need to acknowledge conditions and factors that gave rise to it. The question you should be asking isn't why the rest of the marginalised haven't resorted to banditry, it should be would the Pokot resort to banditry if we invested in them as much as we have in areas the colonial government and the ones that followed called "high potential areas"?

I am all for use of force to bring a stop to banditry, but follow it up with investment in the marginalised areas to permanently snuff out such possibilities in the future

When PC Chelanga was killed by the so-called bandits in early 90s the government put it's foot down and deployed the military. When Matakoei started upuuzi ya Mt Elgon land injustice, KDF ilimueka six foot under. Do we have any more terrorism in any of those places?

Those Pokot militias should be seen for what they are. They are criminal elements slowly taking a political angle. They are now claiming historical land injustices. Clear political agenda. Using indiscriminate violence against unarmed civilians to achieve a political objective is terrorism.

A credible threat of long and enduring communal pain is needed to erode communal support to this terrorism. It should go along with education and measures to modernize animal husbandry.

I don't know why guys are advocating for violence yet the Europeans taught us a wonderful lesson, teach the masses your kind of education and they'll abandon their traditions for yours.
Modern lifestyle has no room for banditry for whatever reason, government should use all it's resources to weed it out.
Build or sponsor more churches if need be.Or tvets and universities ,stadiums etc. Let people have different approach to life by providing an enabling environment.
Serious government goodwill is the one lacking , even the practice of dishing huge tracts to foreigners in name of conservancy should cease.
We are setting up future generations for a clash if not civil war.
Kuna place I read ,in marsabit county a foreign power company were given 150k acres , very soon even national parks will be privatized.

A militia that directly challenges the rule of law through violence is a major threat to statehood. Placating such a group with bribes (peace offers) emboldens them and encourages others to use violence to achieve their ends.

Gava imeonyesha Hawa jamaa mazoano. Wamezoea. It's time ya kuwapipinya kabisa.

but hasn't it worked wonders? don't we all love how the way we don't practice "witchcraft", fgm, polygamous life, conducting women/ cattle raids, walking naked and ferking randomly? Don't we wish or look for means kwenda "majuu"?likewise give those "savages" or terrorists as we the "awoke" people refer to them the opportunity to live a modern lifestyle, let them crave to go to nairobi , mombasa as most of us do. or even majuu au vipi? if they refuse education and our bibles they be castrated to submission once and for all.
perhaps a pokot president is what this country needs
