Hapa mkuu tunatofautiana sana. Why are conflating PROFESSIONAL qualifications with SOCIAL SKILLS? Politics IS NOT A PROFESSION. You do not require any degree in politics to join. But you require some key individual traits - honesty, morality, a willingness to serve, fidelity to the law, etc. Which degree gives you this?

How come to practice law you require a law degree, to practice medicine a medical degree but to practice politics there's no specific degree?

Let's be serious please...
Can we start by looking at the job description of a county Governor? Why do you think that a county governor should be a flower girl or an usher? All social skills but zero management or leadership?

Do you want to tell us that we should elect all those yellow yellows like Sonko and Waiguru to governorship?

Education is important but for political positions you need alot more.....why is it that when you look at Kiraitu you can't help but wonder which Havard university did he attend, or Uhuru which political science and economics did he study or Kalonzo with his law degree and the so called Alliance alumni who have proven to be useless fellows
What skillset do you need your leader to have? Being most electable doesn't mean the best!

When hiring people, you look for integrity, independent thinkers, a person who can stand adversity and lead. A person who can lead from the front.

Mimi nashtuka na hawa wenzangu zana....leadership is about many more things than a university degree. How many degrees did Karume have, and he was elected over and over again?
Which is the right decision between moving the inland port from Naivasha to Mombasa? What factors do you take into consideration? Why? What's the long term impact of that decision? How does it affect other sectors as road transport? Traffic ?

Chief you must be from Saturn. Since when did a recruitment process be so fool proof that we can claim to be able to know that a person can withstand adversity and lead from the front?
Only people whose actions are of public interest and therefore subject to public scrutiny are we able to have an opinion on who they are atleast from a work ethic point of view.....
Like I said, formal education has its limits. There are things it can't offer

There is competency based interviews, aptitude tests and other methods. They are not fool proof but can tell you a lot about a candidate.

Even developed countries like the US and Britain do not require such ridiculous qualifications. John Major didn't have a degree.
There's only been 8 prime ministers out of 59 without a degree in Britain. Winston Churchill had an IQ of 150. The other 6 actually did go to either Oxford or Cambridge University but did not graduate. Look at their current government, 99% of them attended prestigious universities in Britain.

Sometimes a degree may not be that important but we need competent people with proven track records. Sio hizi chokora za wash wash tunarokota huku inje and making them our leaders.

Okiya Omtata has won several constitutional and public interest law cases without that professional degree. My main concern is that You can't have a person with a certificate in MSword managing Masters fellows and PhDs. Otherwise you will be having the scenario of a Sonko kind of leadership, where he felt threatened when his CEC were getting media attention due to the contents of their brains rather than brown envelope inducement.
But anyway it's our country, we shall all suffer the consequences of unqualified bimbo's in leadership.

Okiya was presenting his case, he is not allowed to represent clients before the court. The lawyering system is so protectionist that we mortals are not allowed to form law firms. A law firm must be a partnership of lawyers to keep us to riff raff away. You can't create an innovative venture like you could do in medical field by hiring those damned layers. It's a cartel! No wonder most high profile jobs in Kenya are reserved for those protectionist morons! That's a rant for another day!

I agree with you that inept people like Sonko have been promoted way above their competency!

Why can't we have a politics school like they do in Singapore and China? Why can't we select the best candidates in school and have them follow the leadership track like we do with music, woodwork and other technical courses?

Is leadership so unimportant to us that we don't care who leads so long as they make most noise?
