Mrima says that you don't need a degree to run a county. He says any MCA qualiifies to run a county. To run a county, you need to manage a lot of resources including hospitals, agriculture and other critical functions.

Today, any new commissioned officer in KDF must go through the military university at Lanet. You must have a degree to be a lawyer. You must have a degree to be a secondary school teacher.

Why lower standards for politicians? Why is the judiciary lowering the bar so low? Why should they allow low information voters to choose incompetent people? Why have they allowed these voters to elect people convicted of criminal offenses?

This is not about Kenya Kwanza and Azimio! It's about having good people managing our public affairs.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Read that last part and laugh at yourself. Have degrees given us good leaders since independence?

If you knew the history of this country - and of many others - you would know that paper qualifications, which anybody can get, have nothing to do with good leadership.

Even developed countries like the US and Britain do not require such ridiculous qualifications. John Major didn't have a degree.

If any institution or person wanted to give Kenyan good leaders, all they needed to do was enforce Chapter 6 of the Katiba...

Compare Moi with Kibaki or even Kenyatta1. Who made the country his little wallet for his cronies?

If you want to be a county governor, quit ass sitting and get a degree if you don't have one. The world has gotten too complicated to be run using stupid rules of the thumb.

Show me a successful leader now who isn't educated to a degree level.

Don't forget that we have a degree OR equivalent as per the national qualifications authorities.

Well, as far as Moi goes, it's doubtful a degree would have helped an incurable kleptomaniac...

As for other global leaders, just Gugu. Only shitholes have such stupid requirements...

You Google and tell me which successful countries puts their least competent people as leaders. Look at the leadership of Kenya Police Service and compare it with a premier institution like KDF. Even within Kenya Police, look at the DCI and compare it with the rest.

Why is it fashionable to have low education hizi masiku?

Education does not and will not make you an effective manager or leader. Education will not make and has never made anyone wise.
Do you know why Plato emphasized for rulers to be philosophers? What is a philosopher equipped with? Is it the ability to regurgitate material during exams and pass? It is the ability to REASON and base your reasoning within the 4 CARDINAL virtues with JUSTICE being the corner stone of all your actions and words.
Reasoning is rarely achieved in a classroom atleast not within the 8-4-4 system that most of us went through. Carry out an analysis of exceptional leaders over the centuries and you will be shocked to note that they had God given talents that education only complimented.

Management is a skill just like any other. Any one can be taught how to manage people, money and plan operations and marketing which is what most managers do most of the time. Surely, people can be taught to manage their family affairs which is also similar to managing bigger organizations.

There has been a long running debate about whether people are born or made leaders. Your position that you can't train people to be leaders implies that you believe that leaders are born and not made. This is true for very few cases - 30%. These are people born with specific genetic trait like Nelson Mandela or Mahatma Gandhi. The rest , 70% are made leaders. The big question is, how do we identify and promote born leaders? How do we make more and develop new leaders? Of those that we have, how do we make them better. My position is that giving them more trajning is the right way. Educate them! Justice Mrima ruling implies that education is not important!

Reasoning is taught in most if not all universities in Kenya Do you have any data that shows that 8-4-4 graduates can't apply reasoning skills adequately? {Sweep deleted 😁}

It would be interesting to look at the past. Who are the exceptional past leaders that you would like us to analyze? Should we consider all inherited positions like Kings, queens and chiefs? How do we know if the did or didn't have the best education at that time? Would the time hereditary leaders spent apprenticing at palaces considered leadership training?

There has been an explosion of new knowledge in every field including management and leadership. The knowledge developed within the last 50 years is more than all the total knowledge developed in the prior period. I believe that if this new knowledge was utilized, we would have better outcomes across the society. Our institutions like the judiciary, KDF, KRA have institutions that help develop their people using this knowledge.

County governments are serious institutions whose success or failure affects millions of people. We need the best people with proven experience managing them. Why must the CEO of Nairobi Water have more managerial and leadership skills than the CEO of Nairobi county? Why should we as a society encourage it? Isn't Justice Mrima ruling encouraging this low level qualifications?

Using the same argument, They should lower the standards of joining the bar, if one can present legal arguments even without a law degree, one should be judged by the contents of their arguments not pieces of papers.
Hapa mkuu tunatofautiana sana. Why are conflating PROFESSIONAL qualifications with SOCIAL SKILLS? Politics IS NOT A PROFESSION. You do not require any degree in politics to join. But you require some key individual traits - honesty, morality, a willingness to serve, fidelity to the law, etc. Which degree gives you this?

How come to practice law you require a law degree, to practice medicine a medical degree but to practice politics there's no specific degree?

Let's be serious please...

Mimi nashtuka na hawa wenzangu zana....leadership is about many more things than a university degree. How many degrees did Karume have, and he was elected over and over again?

Education is important but for political positions you need alot more.....why is it that when you look at Kiraitu you can't help but wonder which Havard university did he attend, or Uhuru which political science and economics did he study or Kalonzo with his law degree and the so called Alliance alumni who have proven to be useless fellows
