halafu we keep saying politicians are corrupt yet on the side we keep bribing our way.
It'd seem to me that much of the bile is coz the politicians have monopolized access to the feeding trough.
Hapa nilipo, at the onset of the covid19 pandemic last year, the local senator offered to be supplying hand sanitizer to the local public market. The sanitizer would be picked from his premises and distributed weekly. Kidogo kidogo wale representatives wakaanza kimenyano where some people would get more while others had none, kisha wakaanza kuiba hiyo mitungi. Right now the whole program has collapsed. When I asked I was told those fellows disagreed amongst themselves on how to share the sanitizer that they used to steal weekly.

Paying for employment is most prevalent in government jobs. It is an established practice such that everyone treats it as normal. If it were not, the victims would not be reporting their losses. Question; Would you report to the police if a bhang seller disappeared with your money after failing to deliver?

But honestly hio 800k kwa shamba those kids can be true millionaires in a few years. Mtu anaeza raise hio pesa ako na resources buana

It's all very good to be idealistic and optimistic. Wewe umewahi ona pale Karaba where should you make a mistake of slowing down with a rolled down window farmers/ sellers shove all manner of farm produce in your face. How sustainable is that as an income source? How many times have we seen farmers all over crying of farm produce going to waste due to impassable roads, thieving cartels (NCPB and brokers), lack of market access, etc? We all agree agriculture is crucial but the truth is in Kenya today one has too many odds stacked against them especially as a beginner. It just ain't 'sexy' enough to be an attractive option. Today, parents have no qualms taking loans to give 300k for their kids to get an office job. Na hao wazazi wana mashamba.

There're many who're simply too ashamed to report. Uliza tu how much people pay for recruitment into uniformed places, the figures mentioned are crazy. I've heard of a guy who years ago had given well over 100k to an intermediary to secure such a position. Before the d-day, the intermediary called to say that he'd been accosted by thugs hapo Mirema while delivering the cash akaporwa yote. Utajuaje ka ni ukweli au urongo?

One day almost a decade ago I received a call from a number I didn't have at the time. Turned out to be one of my former high school buddies. He was in a dilemma: he'd recently been offered a position at a firm where he once was an attachee but was required to buy 'soda ya wazee' to secure the position. He was calling me to ask me what he should do. For context, he had an ailing dad in need of urgent and continuing medical care, siblings still in school and a mother who now had no income, having closed down her shop to cater to her ailing hubby. Ehe, harafu?
