Malls and big business establishments will from March start paying between Kshs 500,000 to Kshs 2,000,000 as business permit for offering parking services.

This is likely to see parking fees increase.

Sio kazi yao kuitisha pesa yako ya private parking. Shamba ni yako.
I agree. They have to give a very good reason for this to pass. Nishaona the low lying fruit reasons;
1. Parking fees as a way to control road congestion in dense urban areas
2. Parking fee as a way to control air pollution in dense urban areas

Mtu apatie Kananu my consultation na fee note

The big question should be why do malls charge customers for parking? So if a mall is charging 50bob for 1 hour parking and they get 1,000 customers daily, then that is 50k they are stealing from their customers daily. So i see no problem with kanjo charging them 500k annual license fee for their "parking business" since all businesses must be licensed as per the law.

It is time this grab-o-tron was challenged in court. If the property is privately owned and annual land rent is paid, why should such arbitrary shadow taxes be imposed on them?

We know where the money is going.

Lazy lazy mindset... And just like that malls may start loosing business they never even had in the first place. Trickle donw effect.
They need to be innovative in creating income, not just taxing people from all corners.
How long shall we deal with this nonsense!
Rosslyn Riviera Mall is still less than 50% occupied 5 years later. They did away with parking fees and there's not much change. Are they going to be forced to charge for parking in order to cover this tax?
