I ALMOST COMMITED SUICIDE IN 2023

2023 has been a hellish year for me.

Shit started when AI replaced my main job and my source of income was cut.

From then on, it has been a slippery slope. Wife gone, friends gone, rental arrears, started a mtumba biz (failed). Job applications here and there. Couldn't even afford phone airtime.

Then, shit entered my head. Thoughts of being worthless. Thoughts of knocking on heavens door. Thoughts of ending it all. But I held on.

The pain of returning home this dec without anything, empty handed. Couldn't even buy sweets for kids who call me uncle.

2024 will be tough, but I'll soldier on. I am thinking of acquiring new skills (like plumbing, electrical, etc).

Heck, I like being behind a laptop. I could even venture into programming. I know some python. Used to web scrape emails, e commerce sites, linkedin, etc..

or should I go back to school to learn software development? I cannot self-learn, since I'll be alone in a room learning. Being solo in an empty room could trigger suicidal thoughts.

Very sorry for you. But I'm glad you have the fighting spirit to learn a new skill in 2024.

Plumbing could be a hotcake. My friends and I have noticed ni kama there are no enough plumbers in the country na wale wako ni wazee.

Is it possible for you to do two skills concurrently? e.g. plumbing and programming?

Sometimes isht hits the fan. It did for me too this year when I stupidly lost 0.5M in a few minutes and bothered me a lot since it was due to my own bad decisions.

Claim 2024 will be better. Work on it and celebrate every small win. Also nice having you back in the kijiji. More power to you brother.
