Free Phone calls in UDA goverment

All very well put.
Butis lack of internet among the most pressing issues in our country? Is it even a priority or a desperate case like hospitals?
Health is a devolved function while this would be a project of the national government. If you asked me, is this more reasonable than stadiums and free laptops? Yes. According to them it will take 38billion. That is far much cheaper than that useless raised road, cheaper than 6k a month, or the stadium and laptop projects.

You just have to go to Karatina and see the effect of lightbeams. Almost every other building has them installed for monthly internet.

Still, the funding comes from the government.

What the govt should do is create a friendly regime for investors to tap into this market. Like if I can be licenced at a cost below the several millions currently needed, I can offer affordable internet in my neighborhood. Free things never work out. If what you are using for the internet can't pay for the monthly subscription, then it is not worth it. And you want to tell me 38bn can provide free 1mbps for say 1mn people??

The 38bn can be more useful and have a greater impact if it is channeled towards things like food security and health.

And on a light note, Karatina has 3 mental hospitals.

Hehehe...Karatina is a unique town

On the investing part, the problem will always be demand. There is a reason why some estates even in Nairobi don't have fibre. So long as hakuna a certain number of customers, none of the major ISPs will invest. That is why I suggested KPLC. They have the infrastructure and all the need is the capital. Furthermore, it is not about affording to pay for the subscription.

A while back libraries used to be the single convergence spot for young people seeking to learn. Ya Karatina ni kama ilikufa. Just offer free internet there or construct hubs where people can access the service for free with obvious limitations to prevent misuse.
