In a major step towards sustainable urban development, a Euro 128M Loan Agreement for Nairobi's Commuter Line was signed by PS Kiptoo and the French Ambassador in Kenya. The project encompasses Signaling, Communication, Train Operating System, and Automated Level Crossings; an Automatic Fare Collection System with a fiber optic backbone; Civil Works; and ICT equipment like servers and redundant storage.

I am not a Futurama fan .
BRT ikule vumbi ,hapa Macharia alitucheza and matters became complicated when the expressway was given a green light .The expressway messed up one of the main lines running from Kangemi to Imara Daima .
For the commuter line I would have been happier if JICA did it .
FYI JICA had done a comprehensive plan which incorporated BRT and commuter rail .

Many have trusted the French to their own peril. Never heard of a prosperous and successful French-built project in Africa.
Even here in UK, the Energy Giant EDF is terribly unreliable.
Was this project openly bid in the international market ama JSKS alifanya ile kitu?

From the look of it, the project bears the characteristic markings of a happening scandal. For one, a Kshs 20 billion undertaking is a monumental project that should be subjected to all the rigors that go with such projects, including laying down the objectives, needs, benefits, and risks. It's even more critical that the project is targeting mass transport in a city with insufficient infrastructure and whose population continues to outgrow any improvements. This means that we are looking at a project with long-term ramifications on city residents and the economy.

This could be another project that answers challenges that never existed in the first place, while ignoring the core issues that need address. I would not be surprised to discover that it will be exclusively supplied by French firms who now have an outlet for excess, old, or stagnant inventory.
But I blame those suited, smiling faces in the picture. Most of them have no clue what they are doing, and even when they do, they are either compromised or too afraid to speak up.

Kama ni underground like London then this won't work at all. We've grabbed most of the land that mzungu had demarcated to be used for trains. Last year I met Mudavadi and some KPMG guys in Kings cross/ St Pancras doing a tour of the station trying to model Kenya like it. Kama ni trams like the ones found in Manchester and other European cities stima itatoka wapi?

The French here have definitely, without a shadow of doubt, resorted to their pre-colonial shenanigans of selling Africans sophistication which they don’t need or can’t use and is of no benefit whatsoever.

The French are renowned for acquiring land, minerals and other valuable resources from African Chiefs and Kings in exchange for drinking glasses, mirrors and champagne.

JSKS have made several trips to Paris where he has been convinced of the urgent need and viability of this project which to many is akin to putting the cart before the horse.

Uhulu, Kenya's most visionary leader ever, put in place a commuter rail without loans. We dont any more loans.
