Candidate dies after drinking ethanol

A student died last evening after drinking ethanol in GG High School Laikipia

A sombre mood has engulfed residents of Laikipia West after a student from the area died after allegedly drinking raw ethanol in order to get high.
The deceased and a group of other students from GG BOYS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION reportedly managed to access the school lab and stole ethanol before consuming the chemical.
He was pronounced dead a few minutes later while his colleagues were rushed to hospital for treatment.
The deceased and his colleagues were KCSE candidates.
May his soul rest in peace. Our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased.
 
Shouldn't every KCSE candidate know that ethanol is poisonous? What kind of lab safety were these students taught?

I'm assuming that the students who stole that ethanol were chemistry students. That might not be necessarily true.

They were told that ethanol is the alcohol humans drink.
