I remember back in 1982 I was sitting in the reception area of Kijabe Mission Hospital, as it was then called when this incredibly emaciated patient with sores was wheeled in on a trolley. That image has stuck with me all this time. I believe that was the first ever HIV/Aids patient I ever saw. Later of course I would come across hundreds..................including very close relatives.............kids nowadays don't know how devastating this scourge was, especially in the Moi years when public hospitals didn't have simple antibiotics.............

Anyone who witnessed such in the 80's and early 90's has a phobia for dry fry. I remember even viewing of the body of an AIDS victim wasn't allowed.

There is this Nyumbani children's home hapa near The hub... During my volunteering there I used to see kids die coz of the virus...unaingia unauliza Mercy** ako wapi, unaambiwa she's no more... haunting....

You should have visited KNH's medical wards say 1992. Every two weeks new patients, with the last lot, almost 100 people, having been wiped out just like that.....................
