Whine of the day

I was surprised to see the road downstairs is till clogged with traffic while the one upstairs has almost no traffic. How can a country allow something like this to be happening? We have an asset which can help the economy but we are not utilising it to the maximum.

I know the usual suspects will be here saying this is a private road. I want to remind them the public spent over KShs 30 billions on land acquisition, utilities relocation and restoration of the old road.

This road must be put to maximum use by whatever means. The hustler government shouldn't allow this economic apartheid to go on. Everyone deserves faster travel. The road should actually be turned into a BRT to enable faster mass movement.

Those who negotiated for the road did not do a good job. And this is not bad enough; the government will be forced to compensate the owner if not enough people use the road. This is supposed to enable the firm achieve its target earnings. That deal was skewed in favor of the investors and there is little we can do without inviting huge penalties. The owners would not agree to a payoff because they will be getting much more over the duration of the contract. The whole deal guaranteed profits for the owners while exposing the country to financial risk unnecessarily.

It's also unfair to ban matatus from using the Expressway considering that more people use public means.

Guys, the road has been officially open for all of three months! THREE MONTHS!

The six-month financial report has not even come out!

What am I saying? The contract is prolly a rip-off. If it's true gava already spent 30b compensating people for it, and will still spend more to rehabilitate the old Uhuru Highway, then it's a double-ripoff.

However I am sure the moment cost of fuel starts to fall the uptake of the upstairs road will be huuuuuuge....

The expressway was a government private initiative. The private sector mainly the contractor and the donor government funded The project. The toll stations will be used to recoup the loan.
The unfortunate bit is the WSR Government need to see the initial contract to give a way forward

I don't think it is a fuel issue. If you use it regularly in both directions it is like burning money.

While it might be expensive to stay in the jam, that cost is not easily quantifiable and it differs from car to car based on engine size and fuel conservation tech.

On a personal note, ata na pesa ngapi, I can't pay that kind of money to use a road.

Which is why I am saying that we wait for the first appraisal of the project. Perhaps then they will lower costs to attract more cars...

Kwa ground vitu ni difflent, matatu zinatumia iyo barabara but mostly during rush hour wa maximize trips to and fro

Back to OP the Express Way will remain under utilized if the fuel prices remain at high prices as highlighted by @Guoks, saa ii all it takes at rush hour CBD inbound is 35 min from Kitengela(6.30 - 9am) the only bottleneck that is experienced ni hapo GM due to the lack of constructing a bus stop coupled by the erection of the roundabout infact that section(imara toll) is the most busy section in the morning
