The KAZI MTAANI INITIATIVE was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on 25th April 2020 as one of the economic stimulus measures for informal settlements (slums) in the urban areas with the initial phase including the worst hit counties of Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa, Mandera and Nairobi.
The programme is set to provide direct employment for 26,000 youths countrywide. The daily earned wages will be payable at least twice a week through M-PESA
Applications for Phase II are ongoing in chiefs offices through the nyumba kumi chairpersons and assistant chiefs.
Their job will include fumigating public places, garbage collection, clearing bushes and unblocking sewerage lines, where they will be guided accordingly.
The jobs will cushion livelihoods among the youths in these areas who have been most affected as their daily livelihoods were disrupted.
