European governments are upping their defences and want to protect their key sectors. They are amending laws in the middle of this crisis.

On 6th April Italy announced controls on take overs of banks, insurance, energy, transportation, artificial intelligence and health companies by foreigners.

On 8th April Spain announced new rules that if a foreign firm wants to invest more than 10% in a Spanish company, they must get the government approval.

Germany has also introduced new laws that make foreign takeover harder. Any major foreign investment will now need Merkel's government nod.

France has also amended its foreign investment laws
