Urban Legend: The Monkey Man of Delhi

Day 2 of our series takes us from The USSR to Modistan.

Now, even though New Delhi is hardly new to monkeys, the Monkey Man was no ordinary monkey.

As the legend goes, a monkey-like figure started appearing on the rooftops of the city somewhere in 2001, and many eyewitnesses even claimed to have seen him. Hilariously enough, the police even took their testimonies and came up with an artist’s impression of their own.

While the Monkey Man was never caught and disappeared as fast as he had come, the whole situation created quite a bit of panic among the city’s residents. Most people chalk it up to someone who was so bored back in 2001 that he started dressing up as a monkey and jumping off rooftops before things got out of control, though as he hasn’t been caught, we’d never really know for sure.

Delhi residents, it seems, are not the first victims of this phenomenon. A "scratcher" known as Springheel Jack appeared in London in 1837. He, too, had iron-clad fingers, glowing eyes, wore dark clothes and scratched his victims. He too was never found.

if he struck in this times, it won't take long before someone captures him on camera/CCTV.

but the conspiracies and stories that would surround it would be more entertaining.

especially the description of being in a dark/black coat of hair/clothes. BLM would be up in arms and the cops would justify killing black people claiming it was the Monkey Man.
