UoN fees DOUBLED:

UoN still tops Kenya in Medicine, Law, Engineering graduates. Parallel courses ndio zimedilute the education levels in Kenya so I support doubling fees for parallelograms. Evening MBA classes in UoN are a joke, Strathmore will give better quality.

Spoken like a blithering ignoramus.

First off, those so called 'parallelograms' are what is keeping these universities with a cash flow. Not the heavily subsidized and often defaulted HELB which btw itakuwa na shida very soon thanks to the IMF SAPs II.

Secondly, UoN's (and many other public unis) problems have everything to do with mismanagement. Strathmore is effectively a "parallelogram" but its lecturers are appointed from a point of competence and not tribal/political affiliation. Its better managed than a whole lot of public and private universities in Kenya and results are evident.

The new guy Kiama seems visionary. First he sent home all those old profs who were past retirement age, juzi I read that he had closed some colleges to streamline operations.

Cleaning up the KCSE exams solved the false performance problem which made parallel degree programs a rich vine for corrupt university administrators, raising rates now is locking out deserving students.

Our quality issue stems from the kind of people we have in our universities senate councils and the choice of VC, that is what needs changing.

UON long joined universities based on Thika Road in uselessness. Nani hao bado wanapeleka watoto wao wasomee huko? Worse if unajipwleka mwenyewe kusomea huko.
Now, to the elephant in the room; how exactly does a university make a loss? What happens if the envisaged numbers do t enroll? Universities ziwachane na commercial ventures.
The loss making part also baffles me, its not like the local universities invest in any form of expensive research, at least not at a scale that is felt in our society. The few research project that happen to take place are mostly funded by foreign agencies

Most students in public universities are on break after a first semester.
Sadly, helb has never disbursed any monies to these students. And I guess the universities too haven't received their share as well.
Add IMF into the mix and you can understand why they MUST raise the fees

Someone elsewhere asked whether I studied history (TBT) or majored in it as a Post Graduate realm.
This was my answer:-
Actually, I've been to three universities in my life.
KENYATTA COLLEGE/
UNIVERSITY
UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI
KU (Mombasa campus).
MURANG'A UNVERSITY (JKUAT CHARTER)
Not bad..heh?
Okay.
I went to Kenyatta College 1967, aged 8 years to visit my father's twin brother who was a boiler artisan there. A lot of cooking and sterilizing of equipment at Kenyatta college was by steam. We went to see these boilers. The Head of the boiler works, my uncles boss, was called Wambua. We met him too.
I went to UON with my elder cousin who'd asked me to accompany her to visit her boyfriend. It doesn't matter; 'I went to UON' is good English and factual.
KU (Mombasa) was to deliver mafoto nilikuwa nimepiga staff when it opened. I was based at Mama Ngina Gardens as a freelancer mtu-wa- Camera so kupeleka picha kwa University was common. Hata hivyo, si kwenda University ni kwenda tu?
Murang'a university nilienda juzi tu kulipia msichana wangu fees. But believe you me, I went to Murang'a university mapende masipende.
Bottom line; I AM A SCHOOL DROP OUT WHO HAS NEVER BEEN TO UNIVERSITY. NOT EVEN A DIPLOMA COLLEGE. I PRESENTED HIGH SCHOOL CERTIFICATES AS MY CV whenever I was asked to.
Historia, na utamu wake, ni kujituma ukijua utapata wajukuu watakaokuuliza maswali.
PS.
(My wife studied A level history. When wooing such a girl, or any sapiosexual, one had to chew history too, otherwise....)

Amazing stuff!

i hope once @QuadroK4000 see this ataacha kua sumbua cry baby asking for TBT daily, he should know am a busy man

@Meria kwenda Leta throw back Thursdays.

Wacha side shows.

I am also busy. By the way if you were busy enough, you wouldn't have used upper case in your post, as it always gives an impression of someone who is shouting.

Sienz.

Parallel ina dillute masomo aje and yet all the students whether Parallel or Jab sponsored study the same thing
No they don't. Parallel is business, a high failure rate will make students opt for other universities thus the university has to compromise on pass rates. I did BComm at UoN in the late 90s early 2000s. The entire 4 years I was in Lower Kabete total 1st classes were 3, some years would go without a first class from the entire faculty. When UoN introduced parallel, the first BComm class of 2001 had 5 first classes. You get the drift? It business.
