Maize flour will now retail at Sh100 from today (Monday) following the government's move to subsidise the price.
According to an internal communication document signed by the Agriculture PS Francis Owino, the Ministry of agriculture shall subsidise the price of maize flour being produced and sold by millers for a period of four weeks.
A two-kg packet of maize flour will now retail at Sh100 up from Sh230.
"The recommended retail price of flour is should not exceed Sh100 for a 2kg packet, Sh250 for a 5kg packet and Sh490 for a 10kg packet."
The document further states that the Ministry shall deploy their representatives to the premises and depots of the miller to verify proof of the sale of maize flour in the market
