There was and still is an all time high number of Wildebeasts in the Mara - Serengeti ecosystem anyway.
Down and up the food chain the carcasses are necessary nutrition to other species.
Lastly record size herds were/ are going to overgraze denuding the eco-system to the detriment of all species.
This looks like mother nature keeping the balance at optimum.
