The suspects spent a week at the hotel

8 arraigned in court over Sh4.4 million unpaid bill at Clarence House Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi

Eight friends were arrested and arraigned in court on Tuesday after failing to settle a Sh4.4 million bill accumulated at the Clarence House Hotel in Westlands, Nairobi over six days.
One Ms Caroline Muthoni invited her seven friends to the hotel for a week-long celebration of an award she claimed to have received from the American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The eight were charged with intent to defraud as they appeared before Milimani Courts Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.

Caroline Muthoni pleads 'Not Guilty'

While Caroline and one Julius Mwangi pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them, five other suspects settled matters out of court privately with the hotel.

According to the report by Citizen Digital, two suspects - Victor Oduor and Alvin Onyango - placed their Toyota Mark X car as collateral pending settlement of their own portion of the bill.

Four others - Marylynne Chege, Natasha Wanjiru, Jackline Wanjiru and Grace Wanjiru - each paid a sum of Sh100,000 to settle their portions of the bill.

Caroline and Julius will face trial at a later date for a Sh3.8 million amount due to the hotel.

They were, however, released on a Sh500,000 cash bail.
