This is Guka - Am I Being Paranoid? Rest in Peace, Wa-Kahura.

Field Marshal

Elder Lister
This week I lost a favourite cousin, Wa-Kahura (we people from Ndeiya have this habit of calling everybody Waka-something, like Wakanyama).

Funny thing is, dude developed a slight cough and in a day went into pulmonary distress. In less than 12 hours he was dead, just like that.

Now, I know SDS (sudden death syndrome) has been with us since the beginning of time for a variety of reasons, especially due to CVDs (cardio-vascular diseases).

But Wa-Kahura, 60, did not have a typical CVD profile; he was thin, worked manually, didn't have a history of hypertension and was not diabetic.

Which, in this strange times, leaves Covid. Could it be that this infection is spreading quietly in our villages, towns and cities stealthily knocking off old dudes like my cousin (@Abba , @Mwalimu-G , et al, kimeumana?)?

It is a troubling possibility. Or am I being paranoid?

You can't rule out community spread. It can only be ruled out once we have mass testing.

Pole for the loss. Did they take some samples to rule out covid-19 disease?

I don't think so, which is troubling. Halafu gava wants everybody to be buried within three days or so, which makes autopsies rather tricky............

Is stopping community spread the goal? If that was it we should have gone into total lockdown before the virus gained a foothold.

But now that we have had it within our borders and have established we have way lower death rates than the rest of the world, an indicator of much more robust immunity we should allow community spread at low levels and back it up with quick diagnosis & treatment plus an extensive track & trace system.

We would get to avoid adverse economic effects and slowly inch towards herd immunity.

What we need now is clarity as to what route we are taking

It has not been proven that we have immunity. We have a significant number of people with diabetes which has been shown to be a fatal preexisting condition. We don't know yet how it interacts with HIV but would rather protect these protect those living with it.

There is also a problem with herd immunity theory. Sweden and Spain have not achieved even 10% immunity (percentage of population with antibodies) even after so many deaths.
