The myth of Valhalla...

Mwalimu-G

Elder Lister
...is a good example of how naive poor young men are conned into taking up sword for causes they little understand, usually a bogeyman enemy like "dynasties" or Satan. They get all fired up on the promise of goodies they can only fantasize about - in the case of Valhalla, an endless supply of roast pig and beer that flowed endlessly from the udders of goats. These were images strong enough to drive always hungry youth to take up arms...
The myth is uncannily similar (or perhaps not) to the promises of religion which promises ...

Valhalla, Old Norse Valhöll, in Norse mythology, the hall of slain warriors, who live there blissfully under the leadership of the god Odin. Valhalla is depicted as a splendid palace, roofed with shields, where the warriors feast on the flesh of a boar slaughtered daily and made whole again each evening. They drink liquor that flows from the udders of a goat, and their sport is to fight one another every day.

Vali (or Ali), in Norse mythology, a son of the principal god, Odin, and a giantess named Rinda.

Is Valhalla Heaven or Hell? 10 Facts That Might Surprise You

Written by Christian Christensen in Norse Mythology

During the height of the Viking Era, seafaring warriors from what is now Scandinavia terrorized Northern Europe as they raided and plundered towns and villages that could not defend against them. It is widely believed that the courage and ferocity of the Viking invaders were rooted in their deeply-held belief that to die in battle was honorable and great rewards awaited them in the afterlife.
Valhalla is closer to the concept of heaven than it is to hell, but it is not an exact parallel. Located in Asgard, Valhalla is where the Odin, the god of thunder, reigns. Valkyries, Odin’s maiden warriors, selects which elite Viking warriors may enter. The description of Valhalla is what the Vikings would have considered a paradise.

Many popular beliefs regarding Norse mythology and the Viking way of life (and death) are not entirely accurate. Some common notions of the Viking afterlife are inaccurate and do not tell the whole story, while other misconceptions are the result of facts becoming obscured over time. What is certain is that the real facts will likely surprise you while deepening your understanding of the Viking world.

True, but i have hardly heard the dynasties preaching, yet.
They "preach", in smoke filled boardrooms , behind closed doors in their lavish homes or in their members only clubs, where once in a while they allow a peasant to walk thorough their hallowed gates, make him promises over a drink and hand shake while laughing loudly as they let the poor sod out not knowing he's been hoodwinked!

Then borrowing a page from Game of Throne's, they quietly hire out a singer to play tunes of eternal gratefulness to them.
