In all the debates, the media has been the one letting everyone down. How difficult is it to go through the various manifestos and draw parallels that you could use to create debate topics. For example, health, debt payments, education, agriculture. Each candidate should be able to justify their varying policies to the electorate not these sideshows.

The unfortunate thing is that those are the majority even in the population. And while academics is not necessarily a measure of intelligence, it does demonstrate the ability of people to think and interpret information logically and accurately. When you listen to media people you get the feeling that it is more about drama and entertainment rather than substance.
