On slave trade, we aren't entirely blameless.
On the eastern africa coast, Arab slave traders regularly conducted slave raids and captured men and women for sale/ use as slaves. I recall reading how some local communities had developed an elaborate warning system for that. Elsewhere however, the slaves were captured and sold by their own fellow African chiefs, etc.
