Starbucks is in Kenya finally

Oh nice.
They made me ditch tea for coffee especially due to their wide variety of flavoured drinks. Hope they source locally, from staff to the beans themselves.

They might struggle against established players. In UK Starbucks ranks way below at #3 behind Coca Cola

More like the owner of the capital pockets.
Most of the multinationals operating in Kenya, buy their raw materials outside the country, so that they overprice it and thus declare losses, thereby avoid paying taxes.
I doubt most do this. I heard KFC imported their own chicken at some point in the past though. Even in these cases, the net effect is positive. Employment created, rents paid, transportation, all sorts of cottage industries that spring up around these.. etc

Example? Remember the pursuit of happiness.
China would be a good self-contained example to study. The communist revolution by Mao brought about extreme poverty and famine and many suffered and died. But once they liberalized their economy they started growing really fast. They had to abandon communist economic ideas to thrive. Even now, some of the structural weaknesses of their economy are caused by govt trying to control the economy.

What do you mean by the pursuit of happiness?

Even now, some of the structural weaknesses of their economy are caused by govt trying to control the economy.
Where do you place regulation, standardization and minimum wages in your neo liberalist economy world?
How good is a system that leads to foreclosures and resultant homelessness?

How many people are they going to employ?
Only Kenya Kwishans and tugeges can celebrate such. They will be repatriating their monies whence they come from.
in fact they will source their coffee abroad even though we are the growers.
They are also known to be very bad employers with terrible terms and conditions.
Why can’t Kenya Kwisha create conducive environment for home grown enterprises instead of relying on jobs abroad?
