Spending beyond our pockets

At some point, we will have to acknowledge that our spending on some government and public cadres is simply ridiculous and unsustainable when compared to their output. In the coming year, we are looking at 199 billion on retirement benefits vs 138 billion on health.

I have come to appreciate you as a very level-headed person. Keep it up please.

When I opposed the recent hike in medics salaries I was called all manner of names.

My considered opinion is that no single govt employee in Kenya, even the president, should earn more than 500,000. People like MPs should be huko 150-200k.

Because of the distortions in the public wage bill, we now have the crazy situation where less than 1m public servants are using up HALF of all the money collected by KRA. HALF.

That means the test of us - all 53m of us - ate left with the other half to build roads, pay debt, etc.

Sooner or later something will have to give...
