Mzae hawa waburundi yao vipi?Apartheid was a tool fashioned by Western capitalism to extract the sweat of South Africans. When apartheid was uprooted, Western capitalism felt disrupted as South Africans demanded a new deal. To hit back, it needed to find a way to bypass or punish South Africans for the interruption. The next tool would be desperate labor from Africa, which would enable them to continue their extraction without yielding to the new order.
Parallels to this can be seen all over Western colonies in the past. When slavery was banned in countries such as Jamaica and Guyana, the plantation owners chose to import labor from Ireland and Asia respectively instead of paying wages to former slaves. Similarly, when African Americans reject exploitative lowly jobs in the United States, the solution is to import cheap labor from desperate third world countries to bypass African Americans. The only thing that matters to capitalism is the ability to extract.
South Africans can feel that there is something not right. Its only that they have not yet found its name.
