solar power stations

China is moving forward with an ambitious plan to create solar power stations in space, enabling energy transfer to Earth from orbit. Based on space-based solar power technology, these stations capture the sun’s energy using photovoltaic cells, convert it into microwaves, and then send it down wirelessly to ground stations. Once received, the microwaves are transformed into electricity for everyday use.

According to scientist Long Lehao of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the goal is to place a one-kilometer-wide solar array in geostationary orbit, about 36,000 kilometers above Earth. This system promises continuous power production, unaffected by day-night cycles or changing seasons, and may operate at higher efficiency than Earth-based panels. China plans to use super-heavy rockets to deliver these components, marking an important step toward more stable and sustainable energy solutions.
