Shinning eyes with employer's money

As was expected, equity employees have graduated from stealing customers' money to the employer's money. The chap must have gotten tired of stealing small amounts. Interestingly, it seems like the bank is employing special means to deal with the suspected thug, because it knows following the normal channels means money lost. Stealing from a gangster is never a good idea.

They are biggest by customer base (many small customers) hence greater risk and greater customer care workload. The result is that problems take longer to be resolved hence complaints ending up in the media which has shaped perception.

Why can't they improve on the customer care workload part? A bank like equity should have a very proper customer care department....with near real time of some sorts.

Haya!

I've heard things like someone withdraws cash from an ATM and it's fake notes. Or money mysteriously vanishing from accounts.. Some things are very questionable

I once tried to withdraw pesa kwa ATM , nikaskia krrrr ya kuhesabu but notes hazikutoka . I only had around 21k Kwa account and I had tried to withdraw 20k .On the app ikaonyesha the amount has been debited but sioni cash .I camped on that ATM nikihofia itatema the amount the moment another customer tries to use the machine . I later called customer care while still there wakasema sometimes it does happen .It being a Saturday nikaambiwa I wait till Monday, machos tupu since I didn't have any other money .But at least on Monday I the amount was credited.
Whenever I call customer care the wait time is very minimal better than kra

I pray to the gods that I never have a problem to be resolved at KRA. Last time I engaged with them a straightforward problem took nearly two years to resolve. Then four years later I wake up to an email that one of the three problematic years we thought we resolved is still outstanding. I am yet to visit them to ask them why coz even thinking of another engagement with them makes me very tried.

I am currently going through hell to have them resolve a PAYE issue .My former employer didn't remit paye for a certain year and now KRA has a liability on my account in hundreds of thousands . I did file the ITR which is the only part an employee does . Machos tupu
I have been to Sameer numerous times , sent emails and made many calls .

Man in Sh. 1.5 billion money heist at Equity Bank detained for 10 days

John Karima Wainaina, the suspect who has been detained for 10 days.

John Karima Wainaina, a key suspect in the Sh1.49 billion Equity Bank heist, was arrested on November 9 at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport upon returning from China, where he had fled in July. The arrest was facilitated by the DCI's Banking Fraud Investigation Unit and NIS through phone and social media surveillance.

It links Wainaina to an organized group that allegedly recruited Equity Bank manager David Machiri Kimani to process over 40 fraudulent transactions using his credentials at the Group Processing Center's Salary Processing Unit. The sophisticated scheme, which operated undetected from June 1, involved creating fictitious corresponding credits to legitimize 47 withdrawals from the payroll account.

Funds were quickly transferred to multiple accounts across different banks.
The case has taken several dramatic turns, including the disappearance of Machiri after his initial arrest, with his lawyers claiming he was abducted from his home in Thogoto, Kiambu County, though sources indicate he is now in police custody with health issues.

The court has granted authorities 10 days to detain Wainaina at Kileleshwa Police Station while they examine CCTV footage, emails, and other electronic evidence linking him to the crime. The heist has prompted Equity Bank to implement enhanced security protocols and triggered a broader industry-wide review of internal controls, particularly in salary processing units where large transactions are routine.
