NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 31, 2015 – Deputy President William Ruto on Friday and Saturday led Jubilee leaders in defending the Executive’s handling of Sh204 billion raised by the June 2014 Eurobond.

Addressing area residents in Kwale on Friday, Ruto said the Jubilee administration wasn’t trading with the money raised through the bond, as they’ve been accused by opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“As a government we will ensure we answer all your questions on how public funds are utilised. It doesn’t matter whether it’s money raised through taxes, the Eurobond or from donors, we are ready to give a detailed break down of how we’ve used or plan to use it,” he said.

Leader of the majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale was less diplomatic in his approach on Saturday when he joined Ruto in addressing Tana River residents in Garsen.

“What does he (Raila) know of economic affairs? He woke up one morning and started talking about the Eurobond and interest rates of which he knows nothing about. They’re not riddles or football. Running a government is no small thing,” Duale said.

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has denied there being any underhand dealings in the management of the funds raised through the Eurobond.

Those two situations are not comparable, you were supporting uhuru who handchose raila and is on record saying that he is his prefered candidate na ukapanga line...hypocrisy kibao

Off the top of my head, this is most likely panic selling. Dollar demand pressure is reducing, the word is going around and nervous dollar hoarders are cashing out. In 2 weeks we could be anywhere near 135-140 but it could potentially stabilize somewhere between 135-145.

It's nice to play the long game but hapa it looks like once it gains, which is a big 'if' now.. Better to cash out and redirect that mullah elsewhere such as real estate if looking for regular cash flow or the other avenues that hinge on interest earned such as T-bills and KES MMF

Your logic clearly shows that you are among the people who voted for Ruto to punish Uhuru.

True. Speculation is expected. You will have people trying to capitalise on the short selling. Wataoshwa proper. But you never know for sure. The economy is still on the ropes but not having to use our own reserves to repay the Eurobond is quite favourable on the shilling.

Meanwhile, Jirani is feeling the dollar shortage but are in denial. Reminds me of us pre G-G.

Is it due to the good and insightful fiscal policies put afoot by this Government? NO!
Is it due to macro-economics policies adopted? NO!
Is it as a result of micro-economics policies bringing more productivity and money to individuals and SMEs? NO!

Here is the reason behind this verbatim from the newspapers: the disbursements of Dollar denominated loans - it has nothing to do with Government’s interventions or policies or our productivity.
So, what happens when these loans are used up? Will the Ksh still stand up against other currencies and maintain this value?
