Ms. Caroline Sabiri Manyange, the woman arrested for using a fake degree to secure employment.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) made quite a catch this week, nabbing a senior official from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) who apparently thought her fake degree was her ticket to success.

EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi spilled the beans: Ms. Caroline Sabiri Manyange, Manager for Boundaries Delimitation, was arrested at her home in Nairobi West. She got a free ride to the EACC Integrity Centre Police Station, where she's currently cooling her heels, awaiting her debut at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court today.

The plot thickens! Investigations revealed that Caroline’s "Master of Arts (Population Studies)" degree from the University of Nairobi was as real as a unicorn. She used this imaginary degree to snag a promotion at IEBC, raking in over Kes37 million in salary and benefits. That's one expensive piece of paper!

After the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) agreed with the EACC’s suggestion, Caroline was booked on charges of forgery and uttering a false document—sections 345 and 353 of the Penal Code, for those keeping score at home. She could also be charged with being a terrible strategist in a country where many government employees, including cabinet secretaries, have successfully operated with fake papers for decades. It's almost like she skipped the masterclass on how to fly under the radar with counterfeit credentials!

But wait, there's more! Beyond the criminal charges, EACC is also going after the Kes37 million she fraudulently pocketed. Looks like Caroline will have a lot more explaining to do!

If this is true, she was probably fixed there by someone who is no longer in good books with govt of the day. Or she has refused to cooperate with current handlers.

If eacc was serious about credentials this would have been flagged on day one. We have politicians with official death certificates against their name and eacc doesn't lift an eyelid

New evidence reaching our news desk points to a possible case of malice as Ms Caroline Sabiri seems to have graduated with an MA degree in population studies. We are waiting for clarifications from EACC.

Wapi rebuttal mkubwa?

RESPONSE TO INQUIRIES ON THE ARREST AND ARRAIGNMENT OF CAROLINE SABIRI MANYANGE, THE SENIOR IEBC OFFICIAL WITH A FAKE MASTER’S DEGREE CERTIFICATE
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has taken note of the inquiries in various media platforms on the arrest and arraignment of one Caroline Sabiri Manyange, the IEBC Manager who forged a master’s degree certificate and used it to secure employment at the agency.
Most of those seeking clarifications on the matter allude to the presence of Caroline Sabiri Manyange’s name in the graduation list and availability of a master's degree thesis under her name in the University library and portal. The Commission provides further information as follows:

1. Investigations established that although Caroline Sabiri Manyange went through her Master of Arts degree program in population studies at the University of Nairobi and her name included in the graduation list, the University did not CONCLUSIVELY clear her for graduation due to an unresolved disciplinary issue involving research funds. She was, therefore, not conferred with the degree.

2. After failing to graduate, Caroline went ahead and made a degree certificate for herself purporting it to be a genuine degree awarded by the University of Nairobi on 9th May 2004. She thereafter used the forged degree certificate to secure a job at IEBC. Further, the suspect used the forged degree certificate to register for a PhD Program at the same University.

3. Consequently, upon the DPP's concurrence with the Commission's recommendation for prosecution, Caroline was arrested on Monday and charged with forgery and uttering a false document contrary to the law.

4. In addition, the Commission will file civil proceedings in court to recover the Kes37 million she earned as salary and benefits on the basis of the forged degree certificate, being proceeds of crime. Caroline is among over 2,000 Government officials with cases of forgery of academic certificates either in court or under investigations by EACC. Forgery of academic certificates by students who have not graduated is among the common forms of academic fraud in the country.

There is more to this than they are revealing.

Not really, I have had colleagues asked to resign for faking documents. Maybe she did a Kimunya, 'I would rather die than resign!'
What I mean is, there is something that happened within the University that could be of interest since she seems to have completed the indicated course. It looks like a case of the University withholding her certificate for some reason that could be debatable.

True that, she has adequate grounds to contest the university decision, but has no defence for the criminal act of fraudulently presenting the certificate to her employer. But this being Kenya, who she knows could solve all this.

I would like to hear her full story. Some of the games that happen in our local Universities could make her actions excusable. It is not unheard of for students to be frustrated unfairly but legally.
