Rwanda lawmakers approve swahili as the official Language of the country, dropping french completely.

Swahili may be an indigenous african language but to truly preserve our heritage it is our vernacular languages that we should do everything possible to ensure we pass on to the next generation,it makes no sense to champion competence in speaking and writing swahili when you cannot hack your own people's language.

It is a good move, in the future swahili should be East Africa's official language.
To build a united country, unfortunately these languages will have to die out. If everyone sticks to their indigenous language, it becomes harder to form a united nation, otherwise, tribalism haitawahi isha.

One nation, one people, one language.

Hiyo ni Upuss. The combination of English & French gave Rwandese an edge over the other eastafricans. Swahili is not dynamic and not applicable in its sanifu form as the supposed Swahili councils are there to safeguard it in its pure form and ward off any meaningful changes that would make it a versatile business and learning medium.
But French limits their interaction with the world to some extent as the mainstream language is English. Even Chinese are busy learning English.

Actually they had both English and French, but Kagame goes ahead and drops French because he has beef with France

The problem is that we have too many of them and politicians will not hesitate to divide us based on those languages for their own benefits.

Before the genocide, French and Kinyarwanda. But in the 2000's after entering EAC, they gradually introduced English in the educational syllabus. Now many younger Rwandans speak English more while older people are still fluent in French.
