Edelea kukaa nyumbani watoto watakupiganiaI don't support many of the tax measures in the bill, but I appreciate the intention and the genesis of those measures. I am sure when Kenya was accumulating 60B+ in fuel subsidy debt you didn't really give a shite. But when the bill has come due people want to protest? I won't be joining.
But I am encouraged that at the very least a small population has been awoken from their zombie slumber. Unfortunately, clueless, uninformed, Gen Z Twitter dimwits, who think they are changing the world a tweet at a time, still are the majority. It makes me cringe when all they offer back when met with logic is disgusting abuse.
What most people know is that these punitive taxes are mostly going to finance lavish spending by the govt of the day as already demonstrated on things like travel, inflated renovation budgets and creation of redundant positions for political croniesI don't support many of the tax measures in the bill, but I appreciate the intention and the genesis of those measures. Shida ya serikali ya Ruto ni moja - the president appointed/promoted extremely bad or inept people to high office or as advisers.I don't support many of the tax measures in the bill, but I appreciate the intention and the genesis of those measures. 100% agree except on David Ndii. First, the appointments are a function of our politics. When Uhuru built the tribal juggernaut called Azimio, he was doing it to deny Ruto allies. A besieged man will always be held to ransom by the people who stood by him.Shida ya serikali ya Ruto ni moja - the president appointed/promoted extremely bad or inept people to high office or as advisers.
Somebody like David Ndii, a confirmed lunatic, has no business being near public office. He is on record declaring war on Kenya's tiny middle class that drives cars and eats bread - no wonder weird taxes on these.
Then there are the likes of Sudi and MurMeno. Very bad optics with their looted cash and $5000 shirts at a time of austerity.
Ruto could have been a transformational president but I fear he is irredeemably damaged.
Blunder after blunder after blunder.
Could you for example imagine Kibaki holding the umbrella for a beberu ambassador? Or bringing in a conman preacher? Or using scarce resources to totally change SH?
These things add up...
I acknowledge the people on the streets. It is brave unlike the childish keyboard warriors. It shows people are now more engaged with the actions of their representatives. We may be finally ripe for a political leadership beyond the Ruto's, Kenyatta's and Odinga's of this world. A Kangata type of leadership.

Ndii is the president's lead economic advisor. His only job is to go through things like the Finance Bill with a tooth comb and advise the president accordingly.100% agree except on David Ndii. But on Ndii, I actually find him refreshing. He was one of the people who offered sobber arguments when most of us were intoxicated by Jubilee 1's infrastructure binge. We never listened, and now here we are.
He doesn't mollycoddle people, even the president, and I identify with that. He is not a populist and we need more professionals like him.
Already treasury is signaling serious appropriation cuts if the bill doesn't sail through without those proposals. We are in what is best described as a rock and a hard place. We have only managed so far because of the concessional funding from the IMF. The question I would be asking myself is what happens to economy once we fail to meet their conditions for funding?Ndii is the president's lead economic advisor. If he saw nothing wrong with proposals to tax bread, pads, wheelchair wheels etc, and also the absurdity of imposing a 2.5pc penalty on car owners who already pay 30pc import duty and 40pc tax on every litte of petrol that they buy then he needs to get shot at Uhuru Park.

Don't be surprised if the shilling starts its weakening trend again.

It is really just a matter of time and the reality will sink in. There are two choices! Generate a balanced budget and just ignore 900B(budget deficit -2023) of expenditure demands and watch the economy all but collapse. Second, try to raise revenue with tax measures and make life more difficult for Kenyans in the short term. Those guys are always signaling.
The point is that we are in serious proems.
Those signals do not do any.
Where was this thought when the country built up a 1 trillion deficit?Any signals of appropriation cuts for corruption?
Where was this thought when the country built up a 1 trillion deficit?
Of course, that is why you were backing his Azimio umbrella party for the presidency.I have been a champion of fighting corruption that's why after voting for Uhuru in 2013, I decided not to vote for him again.
Wewe you were comfortable throughout, voted him in 2013 and 2017 twice, but suddenly realised there's one trillion deficit the day Uhuru disowned Ruto.
Other constituencies might feel the pinch but Juja we are not sure kama CDF exists .Already treasury is signaling serious appropriation cuts if the bill doesn't sail through without those proposals.
CDF shouldn't exist in the first place. Hehe. It is one good thing that might come out of this protest. That punguza mzigo biopolar guy should take advantage of this wave so we can cut down on representation. That is where the real problem is.Other constituencies might feel the pinch but Juja we are not sure kama CDF exists .
