The iPhone restricts users to operate inside a sandbox. But when you buy an iPhone, you own the iPhone hardware. Android for the iPhone gives you the freedom to run a different operating system on that hardware.
Android for the iPhone has many exciting practical applications, from forensics research to dual-booting ephemeral devices to combatting e-waste. Our goal has always been to push mobile research forward, and we’re excited to see what the developer community builds from this foundation.

Why is it hard to run Android on Iphone or IOS on Android?. Or Windows on MacBook or MacOS on Dell/HP/Acer, etc... To my knowledge, the hardware is all the same, so what is the limitation?.

You can Windows on android Phones since Windows supports ARM. You can run Windows on Macs
YOu can run linux on anything including calculators
you can install android on anything too like linux


Shida iko in installing them on iPhones since the Bionic GPU is custom made by Apple and they dont release drivers. if they did then you could run it

Also to get ios to run on other devices you might need to have to reverse engineer it to build drivers for it since it runs on lots of it's own hardware and is closed source unlike Android where OEMs release kernel sources which contain drivers since Linux is Monolithic kernel

good explanation.

But i don't get this whole project sandcastle thing. i don't think Apple folks will want to run android on their Iphones, that's basically downgrading in their eyes. would have made a lot of sense if it was the other way around, cause there is probably a lot of android folks who wouldn't mind the ability of running IOS on their phones.

A lot of tech-ignorant people see Iphone/IOS as superior to Android phones. I'm sure you know that. that's why theres people who spend 20k+ for old Iphones instead buying an upper/mid-range Android phone that's actually better than the old Iphones they could only afford.

The truth is for the most part Apple products such as the Macbook and Iphone get more respect/bragging rights than their Windows PC and Android phone peers and that's why tons of people want them.

Also, try asking your friends or colleagues whom have Iphones (preferably non tech-savvy ones, especially females) if they would consider dropping IOS and running Android OS on their IPhones uone kama wataitikia hio story. 9¾ out of 10 times they wouldn't consider that.
