Raila says he was a victim of Moi's mistakes

When called upon to eulogise the late Mzee Moi, Raila said, he was a victim of Mzee Moi's mistakes and that the late President was as forgiving as he was.

"Mzee Moi was human, he made great contributions to the country, but like many, he had weaknesses and I was one of the victims, we made our peace and worked together," he said

It will be remembered that ODM Leader Raila Odinga was placed under house arrest for seven months after alleged collaboration with plotters of a failed coup attempt against the late President Daniel Moi in 1982.

A biography released after Raila Odinga's approval indicated that he was involved in the attempted coup, contrary to what he had previously admitted, this led to his arrest.

Raila Odinga was released in February 1988 and rearrested in September 1988 for his human rights concerns. He was released in June 1989.

In July 1990, Raila Odinga together with other politicians was arrested and detained for organising a political rally without a permit.
