Several learners are feared dead after scores of students at the Kapsabet School for the Deaf in Nandi County reportedly fell into a septic tank on Thursday, March 12.

According to reports, an unknown number of learners at the school fell into a sewage pit after unknowingly stepping into it while watching President William Ruto's motorcade pass by.




The school is located near Kapsabet Girls' High School, where the Head of State was expected to visit.

Following the incident, residents of the community conducted rescue operations before the police arrived at the scene and by the time of this publication, the rescued learners were rushed to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.

At the time of publishing this article, some reports indicate that at least 11 students have died, but Kenyans.co.ke has not been able to independently verify these reports.

The emergency response team are currently at the scene to manage the situation and some students have been rescued.
