Let me help- like you know red roses, and pink, white etc those may be the natural colors of roses, depending on natural environment/region like there are blacks, Europeans and Chinese. Then through care and persistent breeding of the different subspecies one is able to come up with roses of different hues eg orange, black purple etc. the company that comes up with the new strain patents the method used to arrive at the new variety. Any grower that wants to grow the new variety or hybrid for the next twenty years must pay royalties to the research company - that's how research companies like Kenya Seed recoup some of the huge sums of money they spent on R&D. Some companies like Kenya Seed are researchers and seed multipliers and therefore are able to sell their products branded such as Pioneer or Decalb maize seeds.
While doing valuation such things as jembes and tractors may be easy to count and value, some valuable assets such as those captured in royalties contracts may disappear through the cracks and be lost forever.
They are our property coz we funded the research.
Finally, would you give a profiteer the keys to your grain store, akisema leo hajiskii kugawa chakula munalala njaa?

Thank you, I wasn't aware of pioneer and decalb maize seeds nor the roses hues.
