At day 10, I apply DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) to support root development. However, for younger cabbage plants, I sometimes substitute phosphorus foliar sprays to quickly provide phosphorus to the seedlings. This ensures that phosphorus is available for root and early growth before the roots are fully established.
Using Orthosilicic Acid and Biostimulants
I also use orthosilicic acid and biostimulants like Optimiser to improve plant health and resilience. Orthosilicic acid strengthens the plant's cell walls, making the cabbage more resistant to pests, diseases, and environmental stress. Biostimulants like Optimiser enhance nutrient uptake and promote better root development, leading to healthier, more productive plants.
Vegetative Fertilizer: Yara Nitrabol Plus & 17:17:17
After 3-4 weeks, I switch to Yara Nitrabol Plus and 17:17:17 fertilizers. Yara Nitrabol Plus is ideal for promoting strong vegetative growth, as it contains a balanced ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. It ensures healthy leaf and stem growth, while the 17:17:17 fertilizer helps maintain balanced nutrition, ensuring robust growth during the vegetative phase.
Top Dressing with Yara Winner
For the final top dressing, I use Yara Winner, a high-nitrogen fertilizer rich in ammonium nitrate. This helps the cabbage reach full maturity and ensures the plants are properly nourished for head formation. Yara Winner provides an excellent boost to support cabbage development as they begin to form large, healthy heads.
Nutrient Breakdown of Yara Winner
Yara Winner provides high levels of nitrogen, which is essential for leafy growth, and also contains a balanced amount of other secondary nutrients like sulfur. These nutrients are key for overall plant health and ensuring strong, vibrant cabbage heads.
Pest and Disease Control
Cabbages are vulnerable to pests like aphids, cabbage worms, and whiteflies, as well as diseases like blight and black rot. To manage pests, I use Cypermethrin or Lambda-cyhalothrin, which are effective insecticides for controlling a wide range of pests. For fungal diseases, I apply Mancozeb fungicide, which helps prevent and control blight and other fungal issues. Regular monitoring is key, as early intervention can prevent serious damage.
Time to Maturity
Cabbages take about 3-4 months (90-120 days) to grow from transplanting to harvest, depending on the variety. Throughout this period, maintaining balanced nutrition, effective pest and disease management, and proper irrigation will lead to a successful, high-yielding cabbage harvest.
Make sure you have a good irrigation system and a reliable water source.
