By observation. Is this supported by Darwin? Or your granpa?
those white ones mostly are barn owls... better than cats in catching rodents.. I see them almost every night where I live...Once saw a purely white one in the evening as I jogged about. Marvelled at its serene beauty. It flew after a short while and I went on with my business.
Thought nothing of it since I'm not superstitious.
What does your culture say about them?
They are believed to have the most silent flight. An advantage for them in ambush hunting
What does your culture say about them?

I hate to believe it. But every time an owl appears, a death happens.
