Attempts by former prime minister Raila Odinga to defuse escalating tensions among some of the leaders in his Orange Democratic Movement – ODM camp over parliamentary leadership are unfolding amid pressure.
On Monday, September 26th, the former Presidential candidate will meet with all ODM elected and nominated members of the National Assembly and the Senate.
As his first order of business, he must calm the unrest created by Azimio la Umoja’s choice to appoint Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi to the position of National Assembly majority leader.
Babu Owino, the MP for Embakasi East, and Ledama Ole Kina, the senator for Narok, launched a war against the alliance’s leadership, seeking compensation for their loyalty and devotion.
They said the party leadership ignored their loyalties and threatened to leave if things won’t change.
The unjust distribution of house leadership seats to the more senior members of the ODM party was their main complaint.
