A) KDF Plates: Reserved for the Kenya Defense Forces. The NTSA did not issue KDF prefix plates and instead skipped to KDG plates. The breakdown of KDF plates includes:

  • KA: Kenya Army
  • KAF: Kenya Air Forces
  • KN: Kenya Navy
B) Other Special Plates:

  • GK: Kenyan Government
  • CJ 1: Chief Justice
  • SNA-1: Speaker of the National Assembly
  • SSN-001: Speaker of the Senate
  • KTC: Tractor registration plates
  • KHM: Heavy machinery registration plates
  • KTW: Three-wheeler motorcycle registration plates
  • KX: Number plate designated for International Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs). The KX number plate is displayed on a red background plate.
Note: In the Kenyan number plates registration sequence, the letters 'I' and 'O' are excluded. Consequently, you will not find a vehicle with a prefix like KBO, KCO, KDO, KBI, KCI, or KDI. This exclusion is due to the difficulty in differentiating these letters as either a letter or a digit.
