NHIF

wrongturn

Elder Lister
Employers to match the fund, i think most large organizations will now be forced to scale back on their individual medical schemes in order to fund this , if parliament approves it.
Navile NHIF doesn't cater so much to those employed. But pesa lazima itafutwe, liwe liwalo.

“The bill proposes to amend Section 15 of the Act to provide for the liability of employers to make a matching contribution to the fund equal to that which the employee is liable and makes it mandatory for Kenyan residents to contribute to the fund,” says the government-backed Bill to be introduced in Parliament by National Assembly Majority Leader, Amos Kimunya.

“A person liable to pay a matching contribution under Section 15 shall pay such contribution in their capacity as an employer and shall not deduct such contribution from the salary or other remuneration of the employee.”

The problem with NHIF is that it does not fully serve the actual people whi need it most, retirees. And the same govt, in the same breath is still going after the pension those retirees are receiving....smh
shida huwa mismanagement, they eat that money, nssf huwa another ball game, retirees wanazungushwa mpaka some die off.
Hope nssf isifike level ya nigeria

NHIF is a noble venture, having a relative with a recurring disease would have proven costly in the long run, but with NHIF it's all good.

Another day, he usual bonoboism. Of course NHIF has issues. BUT THE GREATER ISSUE IS THEFT BY HEALTH PROVIDERS. You may not know it, but NHIF spends hundreds of millions, a billion almost, doing due diligence which would not be necessary if accredited health facilities just made the correct claims.

NHIF loses billions through fraud EACH YEAR.

If the entire society is rotten, blaming a scape-goat is BS.

As Daktari Luther has pointed out, NHIF is a life-saver despite all the crap.

I may not have statistics right away but I don’t think private health insurance companies like Jubilee spend similar amounts on due diligence. Hakuna private health insurance company imeanguka juu ya theft by providers ; why is NHIF not borrowing from private entities on how to manage controls effectively? Why do we have to lament about thé greater issue of theft by providers, as opposed to lamenting about the greater issue of failure of controls at NHIF,

but we all agree NHIF is a life saver.

Sometime back the admin cost for medical insurance, at least the private sector ones was around 15%, for nhif i dont remeber the exact figure but it was way greater than the industry average. We floated to nhif the clearing warehouse concept for claims, fully coded and automated payments but that became a ling story the vested interests in that place ni noma. You cant run a medical scheme the size and scope of nhif manually especially hapa kenya, but it is that way for a reason.
Even the private medical schemes face the same issues when it comes to fraudulent claims, but I have never gotten my mind around the idea of a government insurance scheme wouldn't it be easier to make healthcare free, at least in public facilities.

One question for you; the US is the richest country on earth. WHY HAVEN'T THEY MADE HEALTHCARE FREE? Ama China or India? Huu ujinga na ushenzi of expecting countries with 50 million+ people to offer the same kind of 'free' health services as Nordic countries with 1-5m people shows how low the IQs of some of our 'analysts' are.

Take Kenya. Only about 4 million people pay direct taxes, despite all the efforts of KRA to collect more. In total - TOTAL - KRA collects something like $14 billion per year. Truth is, the vast majority of people do not pay taxes!

SO, LET ME ASK YOU EINSTEIN, $14 BILLION IS SUPPOSED TO CATER FOR ALL THE NEEDS OF 50MILLION PEOPLE (ROADS, SECURITY, EDUCATION ETC ETC) AND ALSO GIVE EVERYBODY FREE HEALTHCARE? $14 BILLION?

What do you guys smoke?

sikuwa na ubaya, just a suggestion - instead of doing the insurance thing via nhif just put those funds into healthcare, either way it is heavily subsidized, the government pays salaries and other hospital maintenance charges, just wondering why not go all the way.
