Studying education topics that are not directly applicable in your situation only train discipline and persistence. But the subject matter itself will be soon forgotten. 8-4-4 is geared to making one memorize many facts just before exams, but most of it is forgotten afterwards.
That's why with 8-4-4 cheating is very prevalent, it is only about memorizing facts, but not building competency in demonstrated interests of the child. I think education to junior high school is enough for most people for most subjects. Let them specialize afterwards.
