But I draw a line where the whole affair is dismissed as backward and retrogressive because it's being conducted by 'Kikuyus'.

So anything they did that seemed to make them bond together was out-lawed or ridiculed. During Moi's time, tribal elders from any community could meet, but not elders from the 'Gikuyu' lest they plotted the over-throw of the gavament the way the plotted the Mau Mau.
Muturi and his acolytes are on a fool's errand, but those crying the most tears are non-gikuyus.
