Speaking at Gakurune Primary School in Meru after visiting areas where locusts had invaded, Munya said locusts, yellow in colour, will die from age and the cold weather.

“Don’t be worried. They are going to die,” said Munya, who was with Meru Agriculture Director Dionisio Meruaki, Igoji East MCA John Kireria and national and county government officials

The swarm has just finished a fly past, flying very high, over the town that is a bit to the South West of Mount Kenya where I am today. None landed.

Actually, Munya is right. Kenya cannot eradicate the locusts when the entire region and Asia as far as Pakistan have not. Locusts are seasonal, and if they are not controlled at the initial breeding stage it is very difficult to eradicate them. You can only hope to lessen the damage they inflict as you await nature to do away with them.

Munya is quite in point. The swarms cannot be eradicated using any artificial method, even spraying. Nature will do its job in due course of time.
