Matatu Owner Jailed After Driver Hits, Kills Student

In common law, an employer has responsibility or liabilities for the acts of an employee or a subordinate under the doctrine of vicarious liability.
When you engage other people to work for you, and you have power and ability to control their activities and conduct, you also assume responsibility for their wrong doings or negligence.
A very nice and pragmatic piece of law.

Firstly, before employing make sure you have done due diligence as to their competence and experience.
Always insist on references from past employers and call them to ascertain their suitability and, importantly, why they left or why they were sacked.

Also ensure that they are always Fit for Work whenever they are working. This should include being somber from alcohol or influence of drugs.

Make sure they undergo regular training on their fields, among other measures.

thank you.

In the case of an aircraft accident in which injury or loss of life occurs, it's the airline (craft owners) that is sued, not staff.

With all due respect I beg to differ.
Of all sectors airlines are the most stringent when it comes to health and safety. And the staff are thoroughly sanctioned when accidents happen.
Did you know Sir that most airlines will not hire a pilot who has been involved in an accident not withstanding that it wasn’t their fault?
