Nothing sadistic. Just practical. I once had a problem with intruders on my quasi ranch. Buggers could cut through the barbed wire fence to graze their zebus on my grass and shrubs. Ended up destroying some nice trees I had planted. Simply bribed the local assistant chief and his minions to call a public baraza where I announced that I will be spreading some deadly chemicals on the grass and weeds in readiness for some upcoming project. Followed up with a notice in English and kiswahili on the main gate to that effect. Well it has been three years since I saw miscreants in my compound.

I disagree. His is scary because his solution has no warnings. He advised to just spray and wait for the results.
Your solution was practical and humane.
It is the responsibility of the trespasser to ensure the safety of his animals. His? You ask. By tasting/testing the grass and shrubbery for harmful chemicals.

Where I come from, you just spray and put a red strip of cloth (kama Ile ya funerals). No need to tell anybody.
