Police have launched a manhunt on a young man accused of defiling a 4-year-old girl in Kathuriri village, Runyenjes, Embu.
Elias Njeru 22, is said to have accompanied the girl with him on Friday evening as was the norm before coming back late in the night.
"We started looking for the girl but we were informed that she was with Elias, on returning we became suspicious but he(Njeru) promised that nothing had happened to her." the girl's aunt said.
After interrogating the girl further, she admitted that the man had defiled and ordered her not to tell anyone. The minor was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Relatives have called the police to arrest the man who had since gone into hiding after the incident.
Cases of rape and murder have been on the rise in Embu.
Last week, a senior police officer was charged with raping a suspect at his office in Manyatta.
